Unsigned stock list of merchandise held in bonding stores dated 1 January 1863 (40 pp.), together with a large sequence of printed market reports, shipping lists and trade circulars (1860-1893) detailing availability and prices of household commodities. Trading companies represented include: Compton & Read, John Moir & Son, E. Lazenby & Son and F.W. Cosens (London), J.P. Dalrymple, Cohen Bros, James C. Robertson & Co. and James McKenzie (Melbourne). Other trading companies include Willis, Merry & Co., Maconochie Brothers, A. Smith & Coy (Sydney), Scott & Co. (Mauritius) and the Batavia Commercial Society.

William Johnstone arrived in Launceston from Somerset in 1842 and commenced trading in wines and spirits. After his death in 1874 the company became known as Johnstone & Wilmot, when his son William John Johnstone set up in partnership with brother-in-law Stuart Eardley Wilmot, son of a Tasmanian governor.
